Take-home pay, income tax and super tools

The pay calculator turns a salary or hourly rate into net pay for each pay cycle. It deducts income tax, the low income tax offset (LITO), the 2% Medicare levy and any HELP repayment. It also shows the 12% super your employer pays on top.

The tax calculator works out a full year's tax for 2026-27 or 2025-26. It splits the bill by bracket so you can see which dollars are taxed at which rate. If you're lodging a return, the tax return calculator compares that bill with the tax already withheld.

The super calculator projects your balance from employer contributions and any extra amounts. Concessional contributions are capped at $32,500 in 2026-27, up from $30,000 in 2025-26.

Who saves what, and the Payday Super rules

Anyone earning $45,000 or more saves $268 a year from the tax cuts. A $30,000 earner saves $118. The ATO page on new tax cuts for every Australian taxpayer (opens in a new tab) confirms the cut is law, and a further cut to 14% starts on 1 July 2027.

Employers must pay the 12% super guarantee each payday, and it must reach your fund within 7 business days, as the ATO's Payday Super changeover guide (opens in a new tab) explains. The base for it is now "qualifying earnings" in place of ordinary time earnings. The maximum contribution base is now an annual $270,830.

Two other measures are law. A $1,000 standard deduction for work-related expenses, with no receipts, applies from the 2026-27 income year. The $250 Working Australians Tax Offset starts in 2027-28.

Doubling a salary from $100,000 to $200,000 lifts take-home pay by $62,650, or 81%. The tax bill rises 2.66 times, from $22,520 to $59,870, because the extra dollars fall in the 37% and 45% brackets of the ATO tax rates for Australian residents (opens in a new tab). The salary after tax table covers every step from $20,000 to $300,000.

How every figure is checked against the ATO

Tax, super and pay figures come from official pages: the ATO, the Federal Register of Legislation, the Fair Work Ombudsman or the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The current set was checked on 1 November 2026, and each page lists its sources.

Where a 2026-27 figure hasn't been announced, we say so and use the latest one. The Medicare levy low-income thresholds are the main case: the worked examples use the 2025-26 values ($28,011 for singles), the latest announced. The Seniors and Pensioners Tax Offset uses the latest published table, which is for 2025-26.

How the worked examples and updates are done

The worked examples are computed in code, not by hand, and the live calculators use the same formulas and thresholds. How Our Calculators Work sets out the formulas and rounding. The Editorial policy describes how pages are updated when rates change.

Tax calculator questions: accuracy, privacy and which year to pick

How accurate are the estimates?

The results are estimates based on the residency and inputs you enter. They leave out capital gains, business income, most deductions and offsets beyond LITO and SAPTO. Your notice of assessment from the ATO is the final figure. The Disclaimer sets out the limits.

What happens to the numbers I enter?

They stay in your browser. The calculations run on your device, and nothing you type is stored or sent. The Privacy Policy and Terms of Use give the full terms.

Which income year should I choose?

Pick 2025-26 for income earned from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026. If you lodge your own 2025-26 return, it was due by 31 October 2026 (2 November because that date fell on a weekend). Lodging through a registered tax agent may give you longer. Pick 2026-27 for pay you receive between 1 July 2026 and 30 June 2027.

Unfamiliar terms are defined in the Australian Tax Glossary (A to Z). You can learn About Calculatax or Contact Calculatax to report a figure that looks wrong. Rate and rule updates are in the changelog.
